amount.<\/p>\n<p>Further, the assessing officer can direct the person to pay a penalty of minimum Rs. 10,000 and maximum Rs. 1,00,000 u\/s 271H. Here are some of the new TDS rules that you should be aware of:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Currently, TDS is deducted if total interest income exceeds \u20b940,000 for the general public and \u20b950,000 for senior citizens. This limit has now been increased to \u20b950,000 for the general public and \u20b91 lakh for senior citizens.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Interest earned on government securities, bonds, and debentures will now be subject to TDS only if it exceeds \u20b910,000 in a financial year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The government has revised the TDS threshold for dividend income. Earlier, TDS was deducted if dividends exceeded \u20b95,000, but this limit has now been increased to \u20b910,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the lottery, horse racing, and betting winnings, TDS will be deducted if a single transaction exceeds \u20b910,000. Previously, TDS was deducted if total accumulated gains exceeded Rs 10,000 in a year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The TDS threshold for commissions and brokerage has been raised from \u20b915,000 to \u20b920,000, providing relief to insurance agents and brokers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The threshold for TDS deduction on rent payments has been increased from \u20b92.4 lakh to \u20b96 lakh per year. This means no TDS will be deducted if the monthly rent is less than \u20b950,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>TDS will now be deducted for professionals and technical service providers if total payments exceed \u20b950,000 in a year.
